I'm going on a trip to China, and I'm bringing...

...crayons, markers, construction paper, glue stick, crafts, small prizes, stickers, and books!

Have you ever played that game with kids where you sit in a circle and the first person starts out by saying "I'm going on a trip and I'm bringing _____."  Then the next person is bringing the first item and an additional item.  With each person in the circle, a new item is added and by the time you get around the circle, you have such a long list of items, it's hard to remember them all!

This summer I have a wonderful opportunity to go to China to teach in an English camp!!  I will be able to share important parts of our culture, including the meaning of Christmas, Easter, and all the other holidays.  What an incredible opportunity in this communist country!  I hope to be able to build meaningful relationships and answer questions about life with some of the adults working there.  I am trusting the Lord to open legal avenues of ministry during the camp.

Our team will be in China for FIVE WEEKS!  This will be the first time I've been in Asia, the first time I've traveled cross-continent without my family, and the longest trip I've been on.  Please pray for each of those parts of my trip, specifically.  Also, please pray for our team to be unified and that we will live in dependence on the Lord.

Also, please pray for my financial needs.  Although much of our expense is taken care of by the overseas institution, I am taking a required class at DBU, in which I will receive training for teaching English as a second language and preparation for the cross-cultural experience.  I also have several additional costs for such things as materials, a visa, overseas insurance, shots, etc.  If you would like to have a part in this trip, I would appreciate your prayer support very much.  You could also have part in my trip by contributing any amount towards my training.

I am also needing to bring packages of construction paper, crayons, glue sticks, picture books...basically, the list at the beginning of this email.  I'm going to be looking into oriental trading company for craft sets to match my lesson plans as well.  If you would be interested, this is another area you might be able to help with my trip.

If you can help in ANY way, please let me know.  I can give you more specific prayer requests, etc, if you are interested.  I'm creating an email address specifically for this trip which I will use for correspondence while actually in China.  If you would like to receive updates from me, comment on here and I'll get you my special CHINA email address!  =)  Before I leave, you can use either the China address or my current one, but while in China, I will only check my China email.

Thank you so much for those of you interested in being my support, especially spiritually.  So much goes into trips like this, and I know that support and prayers from home are desperately needed.  I am so excited to serve in this way, and I'll be sure and keep those who request my updates...well...up to date!

Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul...

Sometimes it just seems so hard to go on...

Dear refuge of my weary soul, on Thee when sorrows rise. On Thee when waves of trouble roll, my fainting hope relies. To Thee I tell each rising grief, for Thou alone canst heal. Thy Word can bring a sweet relief, for every pain I feel.

But oh! When gloomy doubts prevail, I fear to call Thee mine. The springs of comfort see to fail, and all my hopes decline. Yet gracious God where shall I flee? Thou art my only trust. And still my soul would cleave to Thee, though prostrate in the dust.

Hast Thou not bid me seek Thy face, and shall I seek in vain? And can the ear of sovereign grace be deaf when I complain? No, still the ear of sovereign grace attends the mourner's prayer. Oh! May I ever find access to breathe my sorrows there.

Thy mercy seat is open still. Here let my soul retreat. With humble hope attend Thy will, and wait beneath Thy feet. Thy mercy seat is open still. Here let my soul retreat. With humble hope attend Thy will, and wait beneath Thy feet.......

To those who have been raised in Christ...

receive the power given you!  Read the following verses in Colossians.  Keep them close to your heart.  Meditate on them, and do not let them depart from your mouth.  Be careful to do everything written in them, so that you may be prosperous and successful.  Let them fill your mind as should all things true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable.  Bind them on your heart and wear them around your neck.  Use them to resist the temptation of the devil as your provision of escape.  Use them as a reminder that loving the Lord your God with ALL of your mind means meditating on His truths day and night so you will be firmly rooted in His wisdom.  This is what being a new creation is all about.  God doesn't only see you as holy and righteous...He has MADE you holy and righteous.  You already are.  You no longer have a sin nature.  You have died to that, remember?  It is the power of Christ in you to stand firm.  I could go on and on, but you get the picture.  Be encouraged.  Be empowered.  To love the Lord means to obey His commands.

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.  Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator."  Colossians 3:1-10

Those in Christ are NEW CREATIONS.  The old has gone, the new has come.  Throw off our old self.  You don't need it anymore.  Live the abundant life Christ brought you by living in obedience to Him.  Wholeheartedly.
